BEATING ROUND THE BUSH. . . © Garry Hayes 2002
There’s fires, in the bush - in cities, towns and the bush
All around this countryside there’s a push
A movement growing to handle this latest ambush
But it’s not nature that threatens us - far more sinister than that
If George Double Ya says it’s on - too late to figure where we’re at
*Chorus:
Not Beating - Round The Bush
But fighting, shooting, bombing, with Bush
Now Howard’s real tough. A true blue Aussie coward - acting rough
As if 'All the way with LB.J' was not enough
He’ll make us help the Yanks reclaim all their bad stuff
Did he ask Australians what they thought, about fighting over oil
And removing the head of a sovereign state. Can this man again stand tall?
*Chorus:
First the war on terror - but Bin Laden he soon forgot
No links with Iraq but remove their weapons - he said they had a lot
But a bigger prize was in his sights - Saddam Hussein
Yet another ruler to remove at will, to further U.S. gains
*Chorus:
Now Britain's - leader Blair, with Howard a useless pair
The people of both countries - are aware
That the U.N. must proceed with justice and care
How many soldiers will be killed in vain - with the weapons that were supplied
By Britain and the U.S.A. - surely they’ve no place to hide!
Not Beating - Round The Bush.
Not helping that trigger happy George Double Ya Bush
If no U.N. support - stay away from Bush
No fighting, shooting, bombing - with Bush
No Beating - Round The Bush.

NO FLAG - NO SORRY. . . ©Garry Hayes 2001
* Chorus:
We think Australia’s growing - No Flag No Sorry
These have hardly changed In a 100 years or more
In Eighteen hundred and one, for the first time in this country
We hoisted the Union flag on high*
For Ireland and Great Britain, formed a union far away
To-day what does this mean to you and I
In the same year Governor King, gave the settlers at Parramatta
The right to shoot on sight each aborigine.
For the murder of one white man and the wounding of another,
Was the reason to drive them far, far away
* Chorus:
In the year 1901 for the first time in Australia,
We raised the Southern Cross to start our nation
But no Kanakas and no blacks to be a part of White Australia
Only those with 50 words of European dictation **
In the year 2001, for the first time in Australia
We wait to raise a flag that speaks for all of us
And we wait to say we’re sorry, to those who came before us,
For our leaders just don’t seem to have the guts
* Chorus:
We might think Australia’s growing. Still No Flag And No Sorry
Let’s change both these things now, for a 100 years or more.
*Sydney June 4 1801. Reading of Royal Proclamation of the Union of Great Britain and Ireland.
** Immigration Restriction Act of 1901

Coming To A Town Near You . . .© G Hayes 2001
Ch1:
They’ve replaced our bank with a fast food chain
No long term interest just short term gain
Diamond Creek - is the township for this tale
North East of Melbourne on one lonely rail track,
heading for Hurstbridge. We’re promised another
track that is - to avoid burnin’ rubber
It’s not quite the end of the line just yet
But the banks are deserting us- only one left
In providing a service they see no profit
Just raise each fee, but rarely drop it
Re Ch1
I was a NAB customer at Diamond Creek
or Warrandyte every other week
They closed that down, said that my new branch
Was Doncaster - half an hour away - NO CHANCE
Now Diamond Creeks gone it’s a longer trip
Greensborough, well they say that’s it
Soon there’ll be one branch in this whole damn state
Melbourne Central - Is that our fate?
Ch2:
They’ve replaced our bank with a fast food chain
No long term interest just short term gain
There’s money in making us overweight
While the bank fees continue to escalate
But let’s consider our brand new Macca’s
Sure to drive the other food shops crackers
When these close down we’ll all be fed
A standardized burger, with plastic bread
One giant moves out, while another moves in
Strategic profits, they think it’s no sin
Shareholders are the God they obey
While the locals grow poorer - day by day
Re Ch2
What could be the answer to this common affair
Support local traders then - we all share
The profits might stay in our community
Not with the Macca’s and the NAB.
Re Ch2
NOT with the Macca’s and the NAB.
The profits must stay in our community

PEACE . . . © Garry Hayes 1973
With his helmet and gun, amid the green trees
Stands a soldier so strong and so tall
But he knows when night falls, that a few more will die
‘Cause it’s useless to be here at all
His father he said, go fight for us boy
And kill all the Reds that you can
‘Cos I fought for you to keep this land free
Now it’s your turn so kill like a man
So the boy he signed up.. And all his friends too
They went off to fight for their country
As his friends fell beside him.. He started to think
Of the cost of a free land to all
And he thought of a new world.. With enough room for all
No killing for glory.. No nuclear war
And he thought of a new world.. And how it would be
Where everyone owns the world.. And everyone’s free. He said
Peace is the only way we’ll stay alive
And Peace is the only way we all can survive
And Peace is the only way, our children must see
So he turned to the rest of the soldiers and said
Lay down your arms or we’re no better than them
But a shot through his forehead.. A dead instant hero
At his military funeral.. This could not be read
Peace is the only way we’ll stay alive, and
Peace is the only way we all can survive
Peace is the only way we’ll stay alive
And Peace is the only way we all can survive
And Peace is the only way.. Our children must see-e-ee
If not there’ll be no world - for you and for me

THE WHEEL OF TIME . . . © Garry Hayes 1972
Why do we kill the streams that flow into the sea
Destroy this earth of ours, you know it’s you and me
Expecting all to right itself, with little or no chance
Quite soon there’ll be no one left above our graves to dance
The Wheel Of Time is turning
It’s time we should be learning
Chimneys smoking fill the air, the only ones to breathe
Their license is supplied by us ‘cause we can not agree
On ways and means to save the world, before it is too late
If we don’t, a barren dead earth can be our only fate
The Wheel Of Time is turning
It’s time we should be learning
The wheel of fate is churning
It’s time we should be learning
Solo
The Wheel Of Time is turning
It’s time we should be learning
Solo Playout
